Was a Captain in the Civil War in 25th Independent Light Battery from New York State and was on the Red River Campaign.

  A letter from John Grow to Nancy Lewis dated 1856 telling Nancy he's now an attorney riding the circuit court in Iowa.  His last line reads:  "Have you collected the money on your mortgage from Seneca County?  I have bought some land and when that draft comes, I shall apply the money and then you can sell it out immediately at a large percentage."
