"Alice never married although she was the most remarkable person I have ever known. she told me about the times when she was young she had polio that left her crippled and she was unable to walk to the Lowden school so her father had two young boys who worked on the farm and they would carry her to school and go to get her at night. She studied and graduated from Michigan State Normal College, Juliard School in New York and even went to Europe to study music. She taught music in Detroit and was very important."

Grace visited her and kept in touch. she found her in an old people's home that had been an elegant apartment hotel with a lovely garden.
