Both were teachers in a school district of Atlanta MI. Asa furthered his education in Bay City and that is where their first child was born in 1886. They moved to Detroit where he became employed at the Michigan Central Railroad Co. as chief bookkeeper in the roundhouse. There they raised their children. He retired in 1907 because of poor health and bought a farm west of West Branch MI. There he passed away in 1913. His wife and youngest child moved back to Detroit.
