Henry and Elizabeth resided in Perry County on the farm he inherited from his father. Henry died at his residence in Watts Township on 25 May 1854. Watts Township was taken from Buffalo Township in 1849 and Buffalo Township was taken from Greenwood Township in 1799. The farm was located in what is now Watts Twp., Perry Co., PA. An email from Darlene Bieber to Betty Audet concerning a court case over a disputed loan "1862 Newspaper article from "Perry County Democrat" NOTICE IN PARTITION to Elizabeth ( Louden) Liddick, intermarried with Frederick Liddick, Mary (Louden) intermarried with Jos. "What was being contested by his son-in-law (Joseph Hammaker) was a note Hammaker had signed for a loan ... Henry had written in his will that his son Frederick was to get that note since another note against an Adam Liddig (Liddick) was to be divided "amongst my other heirs" ...I'm glad you asked about Henry, because I got out the will and testimony given about the note and realized I had a few of Henry's grandchildren that I hadn't listed in our family tree ... There was testimony about the note - the gist of it was that Joseph Hammaker was drunk when he signed it .... Adam Hammaker claimed he had worked "65 days at 78 cents per day for Louden. I understood that the money for the land was all paid." Adam is probably a son of Joseph Hammaker, but it's not stated, but ... What I found interesting is that John Hammaker (Joseph Hammaker's son and Henry's grandson) testified that John Lowe (my Christianna's second husband) "told me that my father objected to signing the note and would not sign it until they got him drunk." And George Hammaker also testified "I heard father say some time before he died that he did not like to give the note, that it was unjust. He said that he would never have given the note but he was tight when he signed it" .... So we know that Frederick Hammaker (Mary Louden's husband) died before the court testimony and that, besides Susan Hammaker (already on the family tree), there was John and George Hammaker ... " |
