9 -25-1912. Thomas Hammaker died at his home in Watts Township on the 18th. He had been in poor health for some time. He enlisted Dec 16, 1863, was mustered into the service at Harrisburg, Pa, to serve three years as private of Capt. RS Kacy, RS Gordner, and Col. J B S Gobin, Co. H 47th Regiment, P.V. under command of Gen Sheridan. The regiment was assigned to the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 19th Corps. Comrade Hammaker shared the fortunes of the regiments in the following engagements: Red River Expedition, March 1861, Sabine Cross Road, April 8, Pleasantville, April 9, Winchester, Sept 19th; Cedar Creek, Oct 22nd. The regiment was highly recommended for its distinguished service and discipline and comrade. Hammaker was honorably discharged Dec 25, 1865 at Charleston, SC The deceased was a kind friend and will be sadly missed in the community. Rev. S M Weltner delivered a very appropriate sermon from St John 6:39. He is survived by two children: Charles of Logania and Pauline at home; eleven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He was born in Watts Township, this county, Feb 18, 1840 and died Sept. 15, 1912; aged 72 years, 6 months, 27 days Pall bearers were: John Albright, H W Stonebarger, JP Motter, Wm Bretz. Interment in Hill Cemetery.
