Thomas Jr. burned to death trying to save his son Dewite from a burning house in winter. His wife left the older children in the barn while she ran barefoot through the snow, Carrying the baby, to a neighbor's for help

* On Tuesday night, fire destroyed the home of Thomas Lowden, seven miles north of here. Lowden rescued his wife and four children, and was returning to rescue his 5-year-old boy, who slept upstairs, when he was overcome by smoke and both perished in the flames. Mrs. Lowden left three children in the barn, took her baby to her nearest neighbors, half a mile away, barefooted and clad only in her night robe.
